Membership
Overview
By joining a Union you give working people a voice.
Unions assist workers to gain better wages, better standards of living, safe working environments and employment security, through colllective bargaining and clout in the workplace.
The Union workers are in control of the Union and, accordingly, make it's rules and elect it's officers.
By becoming a member of IUPAT Local 739 members are entitled to many benefits that non-unionized workers are not.
These benefits include, but are not limited to:
- better pension and health care benefits
- earning (on average) higher wages than non-unionized workers in the same field
- better sickness and accident benefits
- contractual protections for on the job safety
- better job security
- protections from discretionary actions by the employer
- access to arbitration and grievance procedure to challenge contract violations and unfair treatment
Dispatches
The local union receives a request for manpower from one of our contractors, with the specifics of the job, job location, skill level required, hours of work etc.
We then dispatch trades people for that request from our out of work list. When the job is completed your employer will either move you to your next job or give you a lay off, shortage of work.
If you become laid off you need to report to our office that you wish to be placed on the out of work list, so we know you are eligible for dispatch.
