Glass Workers
in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan work in fabrication shops and are involved in the production, storage and distribution of
a variety of glass and architectural metal products.
Glass workers work with several types of glass products such as clear float, lowE (hard and soft coated), bronze, grey, green, blue and grey float, mirror and woven-back mirror.
Due to the dangers invovled when handling glass, it is essential that each and every glassworker wear full safety gear and ensure that, when handling any glass products, he/she employs prpoper glass handling techniques in order to prevent injury.
Some duties of glass workers include:
- Cutting of glass as per specifications
- Production of sealed units
- Production of sash, and frames for commercial and residential purposes
- Adding beveled and polished edgework to glass
- Tempering glass
- Covering glass with a Spandrel coating
- Distribution of finished product
- Warehousing of products
- Windshield installation
